July and August are special months for the MARQ. The Archaeological Museum of Alicante offers an interesting programme of activities for the summer 2010 distributed in three areas: permanent exhibitions, temporary exhibitions and visits to its archaeological parks. Three offers in which all kinds of public can come together, with no exceptions, except those that exceed the established capacity.
Holidays at MARQ is a form of cultural holiday that allows us to delve into the entrails of our history without complexes, from the perspective of science and analysing the enigmas of humanity. To this end, MARQ has established three interesting offers under the following headings: Let's travel to Egypt, Discover archaeology and Animated visits.

Let's travel to Egypt, from 8 to 14 years old!
The Journey through Egypt is an activity for children aged between 8 and 14, from 6 July to 27 August. It is a peaceful journey along the River Nile, from the Provincial Archaeological Museum itself, which opens the doors to the great secrets of an exciting and enigmatic civilisation. The journey will pass through the rooms of the temporary exhibition: The Enigma of the Mummy. The programme also includes interesting games and educational workshops on Egyptian culture, which will take place in the mornings.
The Didactic Office of the MARQ has established 4 weekly groups in July and 4 in August, from Tuesday to Friday. Registrations can be made by emailing [email protected], sending the Club Llumiq magazine cut-out, or at the ticket offices of the Archaeological Museum of Alicante, in the Plaza del Doctor Gómez Ulla.
For the summer evenings, the course is friendlier to children. Without prior registration, MARQ offers the same programme on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 7pm to 9pm, although those attending must be accompanied by their parents or authorised persons.
The children attending the "Let's Travel To Egypt!" programme will have different experiences each day of the week, with an extended programme for each day of the week:
Tuesday. Visitors can learn about The World of Osiris and funerary beliefs. The visit includes an explanatory tour of the first room and the corridor, as well as a look at the Book of the Dead. The workshop for this activity is the drawing of the pectoral of a winged female figure.
Wednesday. Visit to the second room of the MARQ to learn more about the Ankhpakhered mummy and through an audiovisual system to learn about the techniques used at that time for mummification. Attendees will have the opportunity to practice a drawing on canvas of the Eye of Horis and the cartonnage of Anubis.
Thursday. Visit to the third room of the museum to analyse the Seramon mummy and its grave goods. The aim of this activity is to make progress in the burial rite. The Thursday workshop consists of writing the names of the participants on papyrus using Egyptian hieroglyphic signs and also making a small "ushebtis".
Friday. Visit to the exhibition of Egyptian objects in the province of Alicante. The workshop will imitate the Egyptian decoration of the canteen of Villajoyosa. Each day will conclude with a game inspired by ancient Egypt.

Discover archaeology, for all the public
As in previous editions, children between the ages of 4 and 14 can enjoy the treasures safeguarded by the MARQ every Tuesday and Friday, between 7pm and 9pm, from 6 July to 27 August. With limited capacity, prior registration is not necessary, although the presence of parents or responsible companions of the children is required.
Animated visits
This is a summer programme for all ages. It is a tour of the MARQ archaeological parks. Attendees will get to know the sites of Lucentum and La Illeta in depth and, through reproductions of pieces, they will discover what and how they ate, where they had fun and played, where they shopped, how they dressed, what tools, utensils and ornaments our ancestors used. Everything is perfectly organised, both on the trip to Lucentum and to La Illeta.
A day at the Lucentum site begins with the symbolic authorisation of the soldiers who guard the eastern gate. They will explain in detail how they defended their cities from enemy attacks, as well as their fears, and the vicissitudes suffered by these people in the times in which they lived. Friendly and pedagogical, they will accompany you to the Forum, an ancestral commercial centre, to do business and make contact with citizens from a time long gone and therefore difficult to understand. Afterwards, visitors can shop in the "tabernae", enjoy the thermal baths and visit the typical Roman Domus. The visit to the Lucentum site is free, on Wednesdays from 19 to 21 hours, between 6 July and 27 August. Registration is compulsory and the following telephone number has been set up: 965. 14.90.00.
The other visit offered by MARQ is cooler, bathed by the Mediterranean. At the site of La Illeta, in El Campello, young people will discover the remains of a prehistoric hut and will be given a detailed explanation of how it was built and what objects were found inside. A jewel that will take you back in time to the time of the Iberians, who left us so many vestiges. A visit to its dwellings, warehouses and wine presses will allow you to enter its temple, where you will see an offering to the gods. In La Illeta you will also see the Roman nurseries, a villa from that period and Roman baths.
The visit to the site of La Illeta to participate in these activities is also free of charge, on Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm, between 6 July and 27 August. Registration is compulsory and for this, telephone 965 14 90 00.
