The MARQ Foundation and the Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg have signed a collaboration agreement for the joint development of research and conservation programmes for archaeological monuments.
The managing director of the Foundation, José Alberto Cortés, and the director of the museum, Mikhail Piotrovskiy, signed the agreement. The agreement was presided over by the first vice-president of the Diputación de Alicante, Mª Carmen Jiménez, and the technical director of the MARQ, Manuel Olcina.
José Alberto Cortés pointed out that "this is a dream come true that opens the doors of MARQ to one of the largest museums in the world. In the prelude to the 'Dual Year Spain-Russia 2011' the MARQ and the Diputación de Alicante lay the foundations for a very fruitful future relationship between Alicante and Russia".

This agreement, which is valid for three years, aims to deepen the study of the history of universal culture. "Through this collaboration, joint programmes will be developed in areas such as museum work, studies of historical, cultural and archaeological heritage will be carried out and shared projects in archaeology, restoration, scientific research and cultural dissemination will be carried out," said José Alberto Cortés.
For her part, Mª Carmen Jiménez stressed that "this is a museum, scientific and methodological collaboration in the field of archaeological research and conservation, as well as universal history and culture. The Diputación de Alicante and its president, Joaquín Ripoll, together with his government team, once again demonstrate their firm commitment to culture and the promotion of our province".
With the signing of this agreement, both institutions have also agreed to collaborate in the realisation of museum programmes for cultural dissemination, in the exchange of books on museology, archaeology, restoration and cultural dissemination, as well as in the preparation and realisation of exhibitions on archaeological themes.
The delegation of the Diputación de Alicante led by the first vice-president of the provincial institution, Mª Carmen Jimenez, and by the managing director of MARQ, José Alberto Cortés, who is currently in St. Petersburg on the occasion of the inauguration, at the Hermitage Museum, of the exhibition "A double eagle's head found in Lucentum" has visited this morning the Federal Parliament of St. Petersburg.

After the visit, the delegation met with the vice-president of the Federal Government of the city, Sergey Andenko, and presented him with institutional details on behalf of the president of the Diputación de Alicante, Joaquín Ripoll.
