The Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg has inaugurated the exhibition "A double eagle's head found at Lucentum", from the MARQ's own collections.
The first vice-president of the Diputación de Alicante, Mª Carmen Jiménez, and the director of the Russian museum, Mikhail Piotrovskiy, took part this morning in the opening ceremony, which was also attended by the managing director of MARQ, José Alberto Cortés, and the museum's technical director, Manuel Olcina.

Mª Carmen Jiménez pointed out that "I have the honour of presenting what is one of the main pieces of the MARQ, an archaeological museum which, although in recent years it has achieved international prestige, today it is certainly writing one of the most brilliant pages of its history".

"From today, this unique piece doubles its value because it adds to the data that is known about it, the fact of entering into our most contemporary history, into the good history", Jiménez emphasised.
The piece, found in 2005 in the Tossal de Manises Archaeological Park, will be on display in the Throne Room of the Russian museum until 9 March.

"Archaeological treasures of the Hermitage".

After the inauguration, the MARQ delegation to St. Petersburg met with a working team from the Hermitage Museum to finalise the details of the next international exhibition to be hosted by the Alicante museum.
"Archaeological treasures from the Hermitage" will be the title of this exhibition, from the collections of the Russian museum and made up of 380 pieces from different periods. The exhibition, part of the 'Dual Year. Spain-Russia', can be visited at the MARQ from March 2011.

This is the first time that the Hermitage has allowed so many archaeological pieces to leave its collections.
