In November, the Board of Trustees of the Awards selected 48 finalists out of the 273 companies that initially applied. The entire process, which began last April, was supervised and supported by PwC Spain.

The MARQ, which participated in the Accessibility category, was the only museum to reach the final phase, being awarded an accredited Diploma and being recognised in the Good Practices Report issued by PwC Spain.

In this first edition of the Telefónica Ability Awards, the following companies and organisations received awards:

In the three Absolute Categories, the winners are Repsol, as Best Large Private Company, Hotel Entremares as Best SME and Aena, in the category of Best Public Institution.

In the Main categories six different initiatives are awarded:

Top management commitment and employee leadershipThis award recognises the organisation that has best integrated people with disabilities into its strategy, and was won by the food company from Palencia. Siro Group;

Recruitment and selection, The award recognises an organisation that is actively involved in the recruitment and attraction of people with disabilities, a category in which it was the winner. MRW;

Accessibility, This award recognises the organisation that provides the safest, most comfortable and accessible environment in its facilities, and was won by Sanitas;

Customer orientationThis award recognises the organisation that stands out for developing products and/or services aimed at people with disabilities, and was won by the Ávila City Council;

Professional development and trainingThis award recognises the organisation that guarantees that each employee has equal opportunities for training and promotion, a category in which the Siro Group is once again the winner;

Prevention and retentionwhich recognises the organisation that excels in establishing the necessary means to prevent supervening disability and retaining employees who acquire a permanent disability, the award goes to Capgemini.

The winners of this first edition were presented by Her Majesty the Queen with a sculpture by Irish artist Shane Holland.

The winners have been selected by the Board of Trustees of the Telefónica Ability Awards, made up of the Chairman of Telefónica, César Alierta, and around thirty personalities, including the Ministers of the Presidency, Ramón Jáuregui, Health, Social Policy and Equality, Leire Pajín, and Industry, Tourism and Trade, Miguel Sebastián; the President of the Community of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, and representatives of companies, universities, trade unions and associations linked to the world of disability, such as CERMI (Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities), ONCE and the ONCE Foundation.
