TUDMĪR. A review from epigraphy
Virgilio Martínez Enamorado
The present-day province of Alicante was part of the ancient Andalusian district of Tudmīr in the Emirate-Caliphate period. The Arabic inscriptions found there must be related, if only for administrative reasons, to those documented in the present-day province of Murcia. With the publication of the work Arabic inscriptions from the Region of Murcia (Murcia, 2009) has completed a catalogue of medieval Arabic epigraphy in that autonomous community. In addition to this, other discoveries have been made in the province of Alicante, some of which have been published by the lecturer in various forums (Alcoy tombstone, epigraphic ensemble of El Comtat). The aim of this conference given by Virgilio Martínez Enamorado is to provide a general review of the epigraphy of the southernmost sector of Sharq al-Andalus (Murcia and Alicante), while at the same time making known some of the new developments in regional epigraphy in relation to al-Andalus as a whole.
