On 27 January, the new audiovisual presentation was held on the discovery, research and enhancement of the Pla de Petracos cave art site in Castell de Castells.
The museum installation that illustrates the pictorial ensemble that is a PATRIMONY OF HUMANITY because it contains unique images of an art from the oldest Neolithic period, was inaugurated in 2003 after a refurbishment for the visit and protection of the artistic ensemble in 1998, WORKS COMPLETELY EXECUTED BY THE ALICANTE REGIONAL AUTHORITY.
The paintings date back to the 6th millennium BC, around 8,000 years ago, and are related to the times when agriculture and livestock farming were introduced into the Iberian Peninsula. They are typical expressions of the so-called MACROESQUEMATIC ART.
THE COMMITMENT OF THE ALICANTE REGIONAL AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY TO THE ARTISTIC SET, its protection and dissemination is a continuous intention, with the participation of the MARQ and the ARCHITECTURE AREA, with the technicians taking charge of updating the scientific contents and the management and maintenance of the facilities at the site and in the Interpretation Centre provided by the Castell de Castells Town Council.
The actions are carried out within the framework of a PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE COUNTY COUNCIL and the CASTELL DE CASTELLS TOWN COUNCIL, which was renewed in 2011 for a period of 10 years. The contribution of the Provincial Council amounts to 33,000 euros per year.
Now the audiovisual that recalls the discovery of the paintings in 1980 and the process of investigation of this one of the most important sites of the RUPESTRE ARTE DEL ARCO MEDITERRÁNEO is renewed, with the attendance of the PROVINCIAL DEputies of ARCHITECTURE and CULTURE, the MAYORESS OF CASTELL DE CASTELLS, accompanied by the provincial technicians responsible for the facilities.
The latest actions carried out include improving the safety of the access path to the site, with the installation of handrails, renovation of the signage and updating of the information panels available in situ at the site.
Future renovations are planned for the rest of the audiovisual supports of the museum installation that illustrate the Mediterranean diffusion of the Neolithic period and the spiritual meaning of the site 8,000 years ago when it was a sanctuary linked to a prehistoric cult, one of the first manifestations of religious architecture on earth.
