A Roman Ara Votiva found in Santa Pola leaves the municipality for the first time to be exhibited in the MARQ (Museum of Modern Art).

 

The Foundationof the Valencian Community MARQand the Santa Pola Town Hall have signed a collaboration agreement for the joint production of the exhibition ".Santa Pola,Archaeology and Museum"The exhibition is made up of a selection of pieces from the Museum of the Seasome of which, such as a Votive altar from Roman timeswill leave the Baix Vinalopó municipality for the first time.

The President of the Diputación de Alicante and of the Foundation LuisaPastor and the local mayor Miguel Zaragoza have signed this morning the agreement, which will bring citizens closer to the the local heritage and the past of the lands of Santa Pola through material collections dating from prehistoric times to the present day.

In this way, the municipality of Santa Pola will make available of the Archaeological Museum of Alicantethe parts needed for the exhibition set-upIt will also provide the contents for the production of graphic and audiovisual supports. For its part, the MARQ will be in charge of the designthe assembly and the dissemination of the sample, as well as the editing and publication of a catalogue with content about it.

The exhibition, which will occupy two halls of the Alicante museum and will be on display between December 2012 and February 2013summarises 30 years of archaeological research in the municipality. Among the most outstanding pieces on display will be, in addition to the Votive altar from Roman timesThe Sarcophagus of Proserpinafound in the sea near Santa Pola. It will also include objects from theCave of the Spiders (III-IV millennium) and from the excavations of the Iberian and Roman port of Santa Pola.

This is the tenth show of the programme "Municipal Museums at MARQ"The project, which began in 2004, aims to showcase the most important archaeological collections in the province of Alicante.
