Great success of the 1st MARQ-LUCENTUM Walk 2013

Last Sunday, 7 April 2013, an activity proposed by the MARQ,  in collaboration with the Asociación Cultural Ferroviaria MascaratThis consisted of linking our museum with one of its main Archaeological Parks, the Tossal de Manises in Albufereta in Alicante, where the remains of the Roman city of Lucentum.

The event was a great success, since as soon as the event was advertised, with access to registration through the museum's website, the number of places was filled, reaching almost a hundred participants, including the organisers.

Following the planned script, the day began with the presentation of accreditations together with juices and fruits, provided by courtesy of the company HERO. This was followed by a visit to the museum's temporary exhibitions: Santa Pola, Archaeology and Museum, Art i Mort al Montgó and above all: Via Augusta.

The latter is the exhibition that served as the starting point, never better said, for the next phase of the Sunday meeting: the Urban Route of about six kilometres, which included hiking We climbed to the top of the Serra Grossa, from where we were able to enjoy splendid views of the city of Alicante and its surroundings. The day was clear and we could see perfectly from the Cape of Santa Pola, the island of Tabarca, the mountains of Aitana, Puig Campana, El Cid, Montgó, Maigmó...

Descending towards the Albufereta beach, from among the buildings that "besiege" the Tossal de Manises, we could see our destination not without difficulty: Lucentum, which the intrepid expeditionaries reached almost two hours later.

Once at the site, the Technical Director of the MARQ, Manuel Olcina, explained the most interesting aspects of the site.

The good behaviour and effort of the whole group is to be commended, especially if we take into account the number of children who accompanied us, given the difficulty of the route, especially in the part concerning the ascent to the sierra.

This day marked the end of the campaign of Easter holiday activities for young people that took place throughout the week at MARQ. It was possible thanks to the collaboration of the Diputación de Alicante, HERO, Asociación Mascarat, and the sponsorship of Fundación Ruralcaja-Cajamar.
