It will be given by Joaquín Lomba Maurandi, Professor of Prehistory at the University of Murcia.
After a brief review of the history of research into the funerary record in the area, the latest developments in Murcian Chalcolithic burials and the prospects for research and interpretation that are opening up in the light of these and the review of ancient excavations will be presented, based on the fact that a large part of the cultural developments in the territory in question are closely linked to the Andalusian world, while certain features, especially in some areas, relate them to phenomena that are also located in Alicante.
We will analyse the problem of burials differentiated from habitation areas, such as caves and megalithic tombs, but also an increasingly numerous group of burials inside amortised negative structures, many of them of domestic origin. In the light of the latest findings, the latest lines of work in the field of the interpretation of these sites and in the contribution to the knowledge of the Chalcolithic populations will be discussed.
