Today we celebrate the 'International Day for Monuments and Sites' with a full programme of activities and educational activities that will continue throughout the weekend. Guided tours, games and workshops are some of these cultural activities, which will also take place at the archaeological sites of the Tossal de Manises -in Lucentum-, the Illeta del Banyets -in El Campello-, the Pla de Petracos -in Castell de Castells- or the Almohad Tower of Almudaina.
These initiatives, aimed primarily at young people, are designed to disseminating the rich archaeological and cultural heritage of the provinceas well as arouse their curiosity to discover their ancestors' history.
In this way, the pupils of the CEIP La Albufereta of Alicante will be able to discover what life was like in a 1st century AD Roman city in the Tossal de Manises today, Thursday, while participating in a gymkhana. For their part, the schoolchildren of the CP Rafael Altamira will travel to the Illeta del Banyets to carry out a guided tour and visit an exhibition on the Alicante coastline.
The programme also includes a painting workshop in Castell de Castells related to the rock art routes of the Pla de Petracos, with the participation of pupils of the Serrella and Penya Blanca schoolsas well as a guided tour to the Almohad Tower of Almudaina and a excursion on foot from this enclave to the Ermita del Cristo del Socorro.
In addition, we have organised for the weekend, a series of dramatised visits to the temporary exhibition"Santa Pola.Archaeology and Museum" and a route by TRAM from the centre of Alicante to the site of Illeta dels Banyets,passing through the Tossal de Manises. This last activity, which will take place on next Sunday 21 April from 9.45 a.m. onwardsThe tour also includes a visit to the rooms of the museum dedicated to the Iberian world and to Rome, as well as to the two archaeological parks. We also remind you that today, from 18.00 hours we will have a guided tour of the temporary exhibition "Art i Mort al Montgó", where participants will be able to learn about the characteristics, the excavation process and the remains found in the Cova del Barranc del Migdia in Xàbia.
After the lecture, the Professor of Prehistory at the University of Murcia Joaquín Lomba Maurandi will offer the conference "Funerary world south of Alicante". During his talk, Lomba will analyse the history of research into the funerary register and the latest developments in Murcian Chalcolithic burials, among other aspects.
