The MARQ has temporarily ceded to the Calp Town Hall half a hundred pieces archaeological finds from the excavations carried out on the Medieval town of Ifach to be exhibited in the new Museu d'Història of the municipality, located in the Casa de la Senyoreta.
This set of materials, consisting of objects for personal use and items from the arcades of the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeleshas been found and recovered thanks to the work of MARQ technicians, who since 2005 have been carrying out an important archaeological research project in the area together with the town council and the Penyal d'Ifac Natural Park, which depends on the Department of Infrastructures, Territory and Environment.
Through this cession, the MARQ contributes to complete the exhibition discourse of the Museu d'Història de Calp, since the Pobla de Ifach is one of the most important archaeological landmarks of the municipality, together with the Roman vicus of the Baños de la Reina. The joint exhibition of materials from both sites will allow visitors to learn about the history of the town and its inhabitants.explained the deputy for Culture Juan Bautista Roselló.
The release of this material will be completed in the near future with the opening of the Interpretation Centre of the La Pobla Medieval Site which, located in the Penyal d'Ifac Natural Park, will host the exhibition of the gothic vault of one of the chapels of the Church of Our Lady of the Angels and one of the finest pieces of masonry discovered in the enclave.
