The MARQ in Torrevieja is showing an exhibition on the history and evolution of salt.

 

The Exhibition Hall 'Vista Alegre' of Torrevieja hosts from today and until next Sunday 18 May the exhibition "Lands and Seas of Salt" organised by the MARQ and the Joaquín Chapaprieta Municipal Institute of Culture.

         The Member of Parliament for Tourism Joaquín Albaladejo and the local mayor Eduardo Dolón will open this evening at 7.30 p.m. this exhibition which offers a a journey through the history of saltFrom its origins as a basic substance for the preservation of foodstuffs to the different uses it is put to today. The event is also expected to be attended by the technical director of the Archaeological Museum of Alicante. Manuel Olcina and the curator of the exhibition Francisco Sala Aniorte.

         Salt packets and bags, banknotes, stamps, shares of salt companies, postcards, engravings, books or publications are some of the objects that make up this exhibition, which also includes various information panels explaining the importance of this indispensable element for human survival.

         Joaquín Albaladejo pointed out that the exhibition "Lands and Seas of Salt" offers an interesting journey through the evolution of this indispensable element, known in ancient times as 'white gold' due to its great value, which has always been linked to the history of Torrevieja..
