The MARQ highlights the history of the medieval building the Maçanes Tower through a exhibition which collects the research and museumisation work that the Alicante Provincial Council has been carried out in this unique fortress. The works, carried out by the Architecture Department between 2010 and 2011, enabled the refurbishment and rehabilitation of this enclave dating from the Almohad period (12th-13th centuries).
Under the heading "The Maçanes Tower. An Islamic fortress", the exhibition is composed of a series of information boards which reproduce a prismatic object with the proportions of the fortification and explain to the visitor the origin, the story and architecture of this building that gave its name to the municipality of La Torre de les Maçanes. The exhibition also includes a video with complementary information.
The Member of Parliament for Culture Juan Bautista Roselló has stated that this new exhibition is the result of the restoration and museum work carried out both in the tower and its surroundings, a task whose main objective was the creation of a museum that would offer visitors detailed information on the origins and history of the municipality..
Among the works that the Diputación de Alicante has carried out in the area are the archaeological excavation of some sectors which provided data of interest for the knowledge of the original construction, the development of the plot or the museumisation of the property. In this way, by means of a tour inside the tower, the public can get to know -through objects, images and various documents- aspects such as the customs and traditions of neighbours of the locality, its demographic developmentthe etymological origin of its toponym or some historic events determinants.
The technical director of the archaeological museum Manuel Olcina and the local mayor Cristóbal Sala presented this morning this new exhibition that will remain at the Alicante centre. until next June. The event was also attended by the managing director of MARQ Francisco Sirvent and the curator of the exhibition Rafael Pérez.
