The MARQ highlights a set of tiles dating from between the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century

The Archaeological Museum of Alicante welcomes today Thursday 22 May at 19:00 hours the presentation of the book "The Three Graces Pavement.Beltrán Ausó Collection", which provides a detailed study of the tile ensemble consisting of 769 pcs. (592 preserved and 177 corresponding to the spaces of the lost ones) that Rafael Beltrán de la Llave donated to MARQ in year 1970.

        The circular pavement, which was part of one of the factories in the city of Valencia, is dated between the end of the 18th century and early 19th century and constitutes the most exquisite piece of tile work still preserved today in the Alicante museum. It depicts, with great quality and profusion of detail, a central scene with three female figures, an octagon decorated with eight cassettes containing mythological scenes and a border with different ornamental motifs such as flowers, fruit, birds, male heads and angels, all of which are endowed with a strong symbolic and iconographic charge.

         The specialists Rosa Mª Castells and Teresa Mª Llopis are the authors of this work, which also delves into the history of theThe Royal Tile Factories of Valencia and in the mythological subject matter that appears in the group of tiles, It places it in its temporal context, addressing its possible authorship and analysing the sources of inspiration used in its creation.

         The presentation ceremony will be attended by the technical director of MARQ. Manuel Olcina and the director of the National Museum of Ceramics and Sumptuary Arts of Valencia "González Martí". Jaume Coll.
