Nearly two million visitors attest to the trajectory of the MARQ on its twelfth anniversary

 

The Archaeological Museum of Alicante is twelve years old since it was inaugurated by Her Majesty Queen Sofia on 28th May 2002. Since then, the MARQ has developed a wide and varied programme of activities and exhibitions that have been visited by close to two million people.

         With more than 81,000 pieces and a surface area of 9,000 square metresThe centre also permanently houses one of the most important archaeological collections in the country, an interesting exhibition that takes the public on a journey from Prehistory to the Modern-Contemporary Age, using modern exhibition techniques based on interaction and audiovisual format.

        Over the years, MARQ has also collaborated with local museums in the province, such as that of Crevillent, Xàbia, Novelda, Villena, Alcoi, Elda, Calp, Orihuela, La Vila Joiosa, Xixona o Santa Pola in the setting up of different exhibitions and has developed numerous international exhibitions such as "The Enigma of the Mummy. The funerary rite in Ancient Egypt", "The Beauty of the Body. Art and Thought in Ancient Greece", who brought to Alicante a piece as outstanding as the Discóbolo de MirónHermitage. Treasures of Russian archaeology at the MARQ". o "The Kingdom of Salt. 7,000 years of Hallstatt history".

The Member of Parliament for Culture Juan Bautista Roselló thanked all the visitors for their interest and loyalty to the museum and pointed out that the continuous support of the public and the interesting proposals that we have been developing have allowed us to place the MARQ among the most outstanding archaeological museums in Spain and, in addition, have given it international renown..
