MARQ prepares a full programme of exhibitions and scientific meetings for this autumn

 

The Archaeological Museum of Alicante is organising its programme for the coming autumn with a full calendar of educational, fun and scientific activities, including, among other initiatives, new exhibitions, publications, excavations specialised meetings.

         The provincial government presided over by César Sánchez will continue, on the one hand, the excavations included in the annual plan, which in this edition will be carried out at ten sites spread from the north to the south of the province with the participation of 120 volunteers. From next September, work will begin at the sites of Cabezo Pardo (Albatera-San Isidro), Illeta dels Banyets (El Campello), Randero Cave (Pedreguer) and Monforte del Cid.

         In addition, in September and October the MARQ will be hosting various scientific meetings and gatherings with university experts who will be analysing aspects of archaeology in the province.

         César Sánchez has stated that "during this legislature we will work to ensure that the province's cultural centres become meeting places open to the public. The MARQ is an example of openness to initiatives parallel to the museum's own exhibition activity.". 

         In addition, the provincial leader has indicated that ".We will strengthen our collaboration with universities to promote the internationalisation of Alicante's campuses. For this reason, we will intensify the relations that centres of the Diputación de Alicante, such as the MARQ or the Instituto Alicantino de Cultura Juan Gil-Albert, maintain with the university sector, such as, for example, the collaboration with the masters and student internships that are taught on various campuses. ".   

         Representatives from the universities of Murcia, Almeria and Alicante, as well as from the Museum of the Roman Theatre of Cartagena and Alicante's own centre will address the contexts of destruction in the Second Punic War (late 3rd century BC) in the cities of the SE peninsular. In addition, the architecture of Rome in the provincial capitals and their transmission to the cities of Roman Hispania will be the focus of another symposium in which professionals from the universities of Nice, Naples, Cordoba, Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona), Murcia and the Institute of Archaeology of Merida will take part, together with students, historians and architects.

           The MARQ also is finalising the samples which will arrive from October onwards. 'Cocentaina. Archaeology and museums' y 'Castles in the province of AlicanteThe exhibition programme of the centre, which is also planning to publish its own Archaeology magazineas well as publications focusing on the Roman nurseries, the Iberian necropolis of Albufereta and Alicante's museums.

       The Archaeological Museum of Alicante, which until 20 September is showing the exhibition 'The Last Voyage of the Fragata Mercedes' and 'Luz de Roma', a collection of oil lamps, has registered in the first seven months of 2015 -from January to July-, along with the sites it manages, more than 82,200 visits. The highest peak was recorded in March, coinciding with the arrival of the exhibition that recounts the sinking of this Spanish vessel, as well as the political and military circumstances surrounding this event, which took place in October 1804.
