The 1st edition of this award is part of the objectives of the chair, which will soon be established under the auspices of the European Commission. Miguel Hernández University of ElcheThe aim of the project is to raise awareness of the difficulties and challenges of everyday life for blind people.
The Alicante City Councilwas presented with a gift from the ONCE with a plate of Level 0 written in Braille to be placed next to the original plaque that measures the altitude reference at sea level throughout the country. The plaque was received by the Councillor for Tourism, Eva Montesinos Mas.

The White Cane is a symbol that we all associate with the field of the blind. For this reason, the prize is awarded to a person or institution that has shown its personal or collective sensitivity by putting into practice some initiative in this field. This is the 1st edition of this award promoted by the chair and its aim is to institutionalise every 15th of October the White Cane Day.
The institutions that have made this award possible are several. On the one hand, the health insurer ASISA-Lavinia which finances the chair in its entirety, as part of its commitment to the disabled (it is the only insurance group to hold the European Certificate of Excellence). DISCERT which recognises it as a socially responsible company for people with disabilities). On the other hand, the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) offering academic support to the chair with all its assets in favour of these initiatives. The Spanish National Organisation of the Blind (ONCE) also lending its institutional support as an organisation in favour of this group. And finally, the Alicante Provincial Counciland more specifically the Archaeological Museum of AlicanteThe event will be held at the facilities offered by the company.
