- The Town Council of the municipality of El Comtat has donated works such as the Santa Bárbara Altarpiece, the Sacred Bible and the original score of 'Paquito el chocolatero'.

A total of 270 pieces have reached the MARQto be part of the exhibition "Cocentaina, Archaeology and Museum"which will be inaugurated on Thursday 29 October. The vice-president and deputy for Tourism Promotion of the Diputación, Eduardo DolónThe arrival of the materials has been supervised by the mayoress of the municipality, Mireia Espeta, and the curators of the exhibition, Elisa Domenech and Pere Ferrer.
During the event, some of the pieces that make up the exhibition were unpacked, such as theAltarpiece of Santa BarbaraThe Cocentaina Town Council has lent this work from the 15th century for the occasion, together with other important works such as the Sacred Biblethe coat of arms of the Corella familythe Privilege of Concession of Fira to Cocentaina of 1346 and the original score of the march Paquito el chocolatero.
"This exhibition demonstrates the usefulness and importance of the MARQ, as well as the joint work between administrations to make it possible for the province of Alicante and the thousands of tourists who visit this museum to know that not only in the city of Alicante there are findings as important as the Santa Barbara Altarpiece."Dolón indicated, while the mayoress highlighted the opportunity that this exhibition represents for the municipality.
In addition, according to the deputy for Tourism Promotion, the restoration and assembly work on the exhibition has allowed the discovery of a hitherto unknown piece of great archaeological value which citizens will also be able to see from Thursday. "We are probably talking about a very important historical event, so I invite all Alicante residents to visit this exhibition."Dolón pointed out.
Cocentaina, Archaeology and Museum", which will close on 14 February, is the twelfth exhibition in the "Cocentaina, Archaeology and Museum" programme. Municipal Museums programme at MARQ, which began in 2004, and deals with the history and archaeology of a municipality with a great archaeological heritage divided between the Municipal Museum -in the premises of the Palau Comtal- and the Museum of the Centre d'Estudis Contestans (CEC).
The exhibition, which will occupy the temporary exhibition halls 'Enrique Llobregat' and 'Figueras Pacheco' as well as their respective access corridors, will be divided into different thematic areasanalysing Cocentaina and its historical evolution from Antiquity to Contemporary Times.
The MARQ restoration workshop has worked on the restoration of some of the pieces in the exhibition, especially ceramic and metallic material.
