The Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) brings visitors closer to the archaeological and artistic wealth of one of the most historically relevant regions of Alicante with its new exhibition. In addition, "Cocentaina, Archaeology and Museums" is an exhibition that is fully accessible in sign language and takes into account the visual characteristics of this language.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Fesord CV Foundation, the audiovisuals of the exhibition have been adapted to sign language, an adaptation that, as always in our organisation, has been carried out by a deaf sign language specialist.
In addition, as a novelty in terms of accessibility in the MARQ, areas called "interpreter points" have been installed, which have a suitable light so that deaf people can follow the explanation given in sign language. These explanations can be given both by sign language interpreters during ordinary visits to the museum, and by deaf guides during special visits that will be programmed in collaboration with the Association of Deaf People of L'Alacantí (APESOA) at the request of interested associations or groups of deaf people.
Through a selection of 300 pieces, it offers an opportunity to discover prehistoric and Iberian finds, as well as the medieval and modern legacy. This exhibition also highlights the Moors and Christians festivities, the festivity of the Virgen del Milagro and the famous "Fira" of All Saints, which is of medieval origin and is considered one of the oldest fairs in Spain. Since the Fesord CV Foundation began to collaborate with the Archaeological Museum of Alicante, it is remarkable the effort that this entity is making to guarantee the accessibility of its exhibitions for deaf people.
For this reason, from FESORD CV and its Foundation we would like to congratulate the MARQ for defending the good use of sign language in its facilities and guaranteeing a pleasant visit for all its visitors.
