More than 6,500 people visit the MARQ and its sites to celebrate International Museum Day

The Marq received a total of 6,252 visitors during the commemoration of International Museum Day, which was held from 18 to 22 May 2016. To this figure must be added the visits to the archaeological sites -306- which also had open days on Wednesday and the weekend.

Undoubtedly, the main focus of the visitors' attention was the exhibition "Vikings. Warriors of the North, Giants of the Sea" which opened on Thursday 19th and received more than 3,500 visits on Saturday and more than 1,500 on Sunday. The website of the Marq has had more than 7.600 visits also during this week.

During this weekend of open doors, the Museum also organised activities in the Aula Didáctica for children between 4 and 12 years old and a circuit of Workshops created and carried out by students and teachers of the CEIP Mediterráneo of Alicante. From Chinese shadow theatre characters, ashlar and stonemasonry workshops, to talks on the Torres de la Huerta and the horseback routes that linked them, or the creation of vegetable gardens, all of these activities could be carried out in the aforementioned workshops.

Many visitors obtained the Museum Passport by stamping their visits to the ten museums that make up the Alicante Museum Network (MUSEA) or by going on dramatised visits to the Illeta dels Banyets in Campello.

Different associations such as the Alicante Dawn Syndrome Association, ASPANION and APESOA also joined the visits to the exhibition as part of the programme carried out by the Educational Unit "An Accessible MARQ".

A whole range of activities that form part of this annual celebration, which in 2016 revolved around the theme "Museums and Cultural Landscapes".
