A delegation from the Marq made up of the technical director, Manuel Olcina, the managing director, Josep Albert Cortés, and Jorge Soler, director of Exhibitions, attended the opening of the exhibition on the Maya at the Museum of Speyer last weekend.
The exhibition in Germany is entitled: "Maya. The enigma of the real cities".will be the international exhibition on display at MARQ in 2017, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of its inauguration by Queen Sofia in 2002.
The event held at the Historical Museum Speyer of the State of Rhineland-PalatinateThe event was attended by the Prime Minister of the Rhineland, the Minister of Culture of Guatemala and the directors of the Palatinate Historical Museum and the National Museum of Guatemala.
The exhibition is made up of some 300 objectslooks at the rise and fall of the Mayan civilisation, and the rediscovery of ancient Mayan ruins in the jungle.
In addition, the exhibition documents the sacred realms and Mayan society, the cities that were created in the rainforest with the importance of nature and water and its decline, the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors and their subsequent abandonment.
