The MARQ hosted, as part of the European Heritage Days, the presentation of the project for the recovery of the Colonia Santa Eulalia, located between the municipalities of Sax and Villena.
The managing director of the MARQ Foundation, José Alberto Cortes, and Silvestre Navarro, teacher of the IES La Canal de Petrer and coordinator of the project, presented the programme for the recovery of the enclave that will culminate in March 2017.
Cortés stressed the "support that the Museum will donate to the project because it is in line with the Council of Europe's guidelines for heritage recovery". and highlighted the open days that MARQ has held during this week and other activities related to the project.
For his part, Professor Navarro highlighted the importance of the enclave that "It has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, BIC, in February 2016 and in which a total of 11 schools from Elda, Petrer Sax and Villena are involved in addition to teachers, pupils and town councils".
Colonia Santa Eulalia was founded by the Count of Alcudia at the end of the 19th century as an agricultural and industrial settlement dedicated to the cultivation and production of vines, cereals and almonds.
The main characteristic of the enclave is that it was endowed with facilities that were out of the ordinary for the time and with the aim of dignifying the life of its workers. Thus, it was provided with a theatre, school, squares and gardens, etc.
For the recovery and knowledge of the project, a series of guided visits will be made by Tourism students to the teachers of the different centres during the month of November, as well as the development of educational micro-projects and various cycle tourism routes through the area and other activities that will culminate with a conference at MARQ on 17 and 18 February 2017. Finally, the project as a whole will be presented to civil society on 26 March.
