Today, Thursday 20th October, the exhibition "Luz de Roma. Roman lanterns". The itinerant exhibition, which deals with Roman-era chandeliers, aims to raise awareness of the usefulness of these small objects that changed shape and decoration over the centuries of Roman rule.
Lucerneis the name given to oil lamps in Roman times. It is an object generally made of ceramic, although there are also examples made of bronze, which was used for lighting, as the lantern is fitted with a tank into which the oil or fuel was poured and from which a wick was lit. These objects are generally small in size, although there were also some with a larger storage tank.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Banco Sabadell Foundation and began its tour after being inaugurated in July 2015 at the MARQ. Elda, Callosa del Segura, Sax and now Cocentaina have been the temporary venues for this exhibition.
