On 3 November, the first of the Teacher Training Seminars for Pre-school, Special Education, Primary and Secondary School teachers organised by the MARQ Didactic Unit for the 2016-17 school year will be inaugurated.
The aim of "The Vikings" is to provide a rigorous content base for teachers who wish to visit with their students the international exhibition "Vikings. Warriors of the North. Giants of the sea" as well as to complete in their classrooms the History programme on the themes of the Middle Ages.
As this is the first time that a collection from the "National Museum of Denmark" (Copenhagen) has arrived in Spain, it is a unique opportunity to learn directly about the material culture of this civilisation.
The conference will provide up-to-date information on recent research in the field of Viking archaeology in Denmark. The contents will be aimed at eliminating false stereotypes about the Vikings, offering a vision more in accordance with the historical reality of this people. There will also be a specific conference on the incursions of the Northmen in the SE Peninsular. Within the conference there will be proposals for activities that can be carried out in the classroom that will help schoolchildren to enter and learn about the world of the Vikings. It includes a guided visit to the exhibition by the Technical Director of MARQ.
The conference will be held on 3, 8 and 9 November and is officially recognised by the Consellería de Educación, Cultura y Deporte de la Generalitat Valenciana.
