The Archaeological Museum of Alicante, its three archaeological sites and the Almudaina Tower, will join the commemoration on Tuesday 18th April of the International Day for Monuments and Sites. An open day with which the Marq remembers its creation by the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) on 18 April 1982, and its subsequent adoption by UNESCO the following year, an ephemeris instituted to raise awareness of the diversity of humanity's cultural heritage, its vulnerability and the efforts required for its protection and recovery.
In 2017, the theme will be "Cultural Heritage & Sustainable Tourism" (Cultural Heritage & Sustainable Tourism)chosen because of the relationship with the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development and in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
