Two of the world's leading heritage experts visit MARQ

 

 

The architects Fernando Cobo and Joao Santos visited the Marq this Friday afternoon after participating in a conference on World Heritage organised by the Department of Culture of Alicante City Council. During these meetings, an international group of experts in historical military heritage and fortified constructions exchanged proposals and value judgements on the singularities of Alicante on which a candidacy for the title of World Heritage Site could be structured.

Fernando Cobo is the only Spanish member of UNESCO's Committee on Fortifications and has led the nomination, among others, of the fortifications of Ibiza. For his part, the Portuguese specialist Joao Santos is in charge of the nomination of fortifications on the Portuguese and Extremadura borders, Almeida and Ciudad Rodrigo.

The Marq archaeologist and technical coordinator of the international exhibition also took part in these working sessions. Mayas. The Enigma of the Lost CitiesJosé Luis Menéndez, who has accompanied them on their journey through Mayan culture and also through the permanent galleries of the Marq.
