The MARQ starts the 13th excavation campaign in the Medieval Pobla d`Ifac with the participation of 36 students from Spain and Europe.

The MARQ has launched the thirteenth campaign of excavations in the Pobla Medieval Pobla Medieval d'Ifac in which the following will participate 36 students Archaeology students from different Spanish and European universities. One of the main objectives of this edition will focus on continuing with the study of the system of access to the siteas well as in other preventive conservation.

The Alicante Provincial Council has signed a collaboration agreement with the Calp Town Hall to share efforts that will benefit the future development of this enclave, which has been declared an Bien de Interés Cultural in 2011. The XIII campaign, directed by the archaeologist of the Alicante museum José Luis Menéndezwill run until the next 31 August and also has the collaboration of the Penyal d'Ifac Natural Park.

At the same time, taking advantage of the high tourist occupation of Calp in the summer months and to bring the work of the technicians closer to the public, a series of workshops will be offered. didactic activities aimed at the youngest children.

This year, the work will focus on the sector located outside the walls with the aim of continue to discover part of the wall that delimits this area, which occupies just over 4 hectares. Work will also be carried out again in the interior access chamber and in the main street that organises the urban space. The work carried out will provide a vital information for the study of internal organisation of this enclave, built on the basis of year 1298 by Roger de LlúriaLord of Ifach and Calabrian admiral in the service of the Crown of Aragon. In addition, an action has been programmed in the area near the car park with the aim of confirming the existence of medieval structures on the upper platforms of the site.

On the other hand, and in order to conserve the remains discovered in recent years, the Alicante Provincial Council, through the Department of Architecture, will continue with the programme of preventive conservationThe work will be carried out in different areas of the walled enclosure that are in serious deterioration. The work will mainly affect a 15-metre-long stretch of the walled enclosure which is in a state of serious deterioration. northern walllocated in the vicinity of the Puerta de Ifach, where there will be a volumetric reintegration of the lost factory to prevent future collapses and to reinforce this area of the walled enclosure.

Particular emphasis will also be placed on protection of the tombs of the medieval necropolisthe funerary space located to the west of the façade of the Church of Our Lady of the Angelsbuilt between the years 1320-1340 by Doña MargaritaCountess of Terranova and daughter of Admiral Roger de Llúria, one of the site's emblematic buildings. The work will be aimed at preserving the uncovered tombs and preventing their deterioration due to rain and wind.
