MARQ closes the international exhibition on the Maya with the visit of more than 97,500 people

  

A total of 97,590 people have visited the international exhibition "Mayas. The enigma of the lost cities" which has hosted the MARQ from 25 May 2017 until this Sunday 7 January. The museum reached record figures during the open doors week - held from 2 to 7 January to close the exhibition - with nearly 6,000 visitors and over the course of 2017 more than 174,000 people have passed through their facilities and sites.

The exhibition, which was attended by a spectacular exhibition designhas provided first-hand knowledge of the legacy of one of the world's most fabulous civilisations, from the surprising recreation of the origin of this culture, through the monumental architecture The exhibition also includes pieces of great historical value, such as the figure of the pyramids and the mysteries of hieroglyphic writing arranged on stelae or lintels, as well as a reproduction of an imposing Mayan temple. In addition, the proposal has included pieces of great historical value, such as the figure of the of a man with the attributes of a jaguar, which has garnered all the praise from visitors, a JADE MASK, various trails, plates or censers.

            Over the last few months, the Alicante museum has been offering the public the essence of this civilisation through an important collection of 200 pieces from the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology of Guatemala (MUNAE) and two Guatemalan institutions, the Ruta Maya Foundation and the Neria Herrera Collection of the Museum Juan Antonio Valdés. It has also benefited from the contribution of other European spaces of recognised prestige, such as the Museum of Ethnology Berlin or the Rautenstrauch Joest Museum Cologne.   

Finally, it should be noted that one of the additions that has attracted the most attention from the public has been the interactive panels and the mysteries of the Mayan calendar.
