MARQ's Archaeological Excavations Plan extends this summer to seven sites in the province

Once again this year, the MARQ will launch the archaeological excavation programme in which the following will participate 95 volunteers distributed in seven enclaves of the province. This was detailed this morning by the deputy for Culture, César Augusto AsencioThe campaign, which, with a budget of 106,000 euros, contributes to the increase and preservation of the rich historical and cultural heritage of the province. The event was attended by the museum's technical director, Manuel Olcinawho has specified each of the archaeological executions.

The plan fulfils the objective of documenting and realising a extensive scientific research of the findings that are recovered in the Alicante area, as well as to advance in the knowledge of the ancient civilisations that populated different enclaves in the province. As Asencio explained, "...This complete and rigorous initiative is a benchmark in the Valencian Community and at a national level both for the historical periods it covers, from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages, and for the territorial scope in which it is carried out. Behind these actions there is an exceptional technical team that selects the sites according to the planned lines of research.".

Undoubtedly, one of the most relevant Roman cities in Spain is the Tossal de ManisesThis year, this enclave is managed directly by the Diputación de Alicante, where work will be carried out to deepen the three phases of the walling of the main gate and the paths leading to it. A maximum of twelve volunteers will collaborate in this initiative that will last throughout the month of July.

The team of archaeologists from the MARQ will also intervene in the locations of the Slopes of the Castle of Callosa de Segura, the Randero Cave of Pedreguer, the Pobla d'Ifac in Calp, on Cabezo del Molino in Rojales, the Borratxina in Mutxamel and the underwater archaeological chart of Baix del Segura.  

Cova del Randero de Pedreguer

The action in the Cova del Randero, located in Pedreguerwill give continuity to the works in the Gallery of the Inner Hall -area where the best evidence of the funerary use of the cavity has been determined after the discovery of a complete skull The excavations in the Sala de la Entrada, as well as the excavations in the Sala de la Entrada, will be carried out in order to deepen the research. Slopes of the Castle of Callosa de Segura

To fifteen volunteers will gather this year around this area of the Vega Baja to carry out archaeological work in two stages.  Pobla d'Ifac of Calp

Underwater archaeological map of Baix Segura

This new stage will continue with the work of underwater prospecting and soundings for the preparation of the Underwater Archaeological Map of the province of Alicante.. This phase will focus on the coasts of Guardamar del Segura, Torrevieja, Orihuela and Pilar de la Horadada from September onwards.
