At the ceremony and end-of-year party of the Alicante ONCE CRE held on 28 June, awards were presented to those entities and individuals who have collaborated during the 2017-2018 academic year to carry out their educational inclusion objectives.
The MARQ has been awarded with the inclusion award for the work it has done to make its temporary exhibitions accessible to people who are blind or severely visually impaired.
The MARQ's Didactics and Accessibility Department, the MARQ's Exhibitions and Dissemination Department, architects and designers work together to ensure that the exhibitions are inclusive, taking into account aspects such as the approach to the exhibition, the featured pieces, the main objectives, the essential contents of the exhibition, the museographic discourse, etc. The MARQ is committed to facilitating accessibility and inclusion for different groups, both in the physical space and in the content of the temporary exhibitions.
Among the actions carried out to make exhibitions accessible to blind people, the following stand out: the Tactile Plan of the three temporary galleries; the distribution of the display cases, their height and the room routes in such a way as to allow visits with a guide dog, cane or wheelchair; 3D reproductions of the most representative pieces; sensory resources, mainly using scents and perfumes, to point out the different areas and contents of the exhibition; and the QR codes to access audio information.
For MARQ it is an honour to be able to carry out joint actions with the ONCE of Alicante, intended for to achieve full accessibility to the archaeological heritage that the MARQ holds, with the aim that groups of blind or severely visually impaired people can make better use of and enjoy their leisure and free time activities. Together we make MARQ a museum for everyone.
