The VI Medieval Archaeology Congress, inaugurated this morning at the MARQ, will present the new developments that the latest excavations, research and recent discoveries in Spain and Portugal (including the island territory) are providing in this key period for the understanding of our history. Advances that are allowing a re-reading of the epigraphic, numismatic, ceramological or metallic vestiges and also of the architecture and monuments. Through 70 presentations, specialists will have the opportunity to share their research and discuss the new methodologies generated by the incorporation and use of new information and communication technologies.
The opening day was attended by the president of the Spanish Association of Medieval Archaeology, curator and archaeologist of the MARQ, Rafael Azuar, the technical director of the Alicante museum, Manuel Olcina, and the managing director of the MARQ Foundation, José Alberto Cortés. The congress, which has brought together more than one hundred specialists from Spain and Portugal, will be held in parallel sessions both in the MARQ's Assembly Hall and in the main hall of the MARQ Library until Saturday 9 November.
