The Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) has loaned a set of bronze pieces for the temporary exhibition Metal Arts in al-Andalus'. which was inaugurated this morning at the National Archaeological Museum (MAN). The exhibition can be visited until 26 April It will then travel to the MARQ, where it will remain on display for a few months.

The metal arts in al-Andalus' includes works from the MAN, which houses one of the most important main Andalusian collections in the world, y MARQ highlights. It consists of nine bronze pieces (bowls, ladle, candelabrum, lamp, lamp holder, balance weight...) from the 11th century A.D., from the area of Caesarea (Palestine). The set was found inside a ceramic jar discovered in Denia in the 1920s by the Reverend Father Belda, director of the old Archaeological Museum of Alicante. In addition, it should be noted that recent research has documented a workshop with the same type of objects in the Lake Tiberias area of Israel.
The exhibition, curated by the chief curator of the Department of Medieval Antiquities at MAN, Sergio Vidaloffers a carefully selection of 264 piecesaccompanied by of audiovisual materialThe museum's collections, which highlight the high level of technology, scientific knowledge and artistic refinement achieved at that time, are also on display. In addition, it also displays collections from the Archaeological Museum of Cordoba, the Museum of the Alhambra, the Museum of Mallorca, the Museum für Islamische Kunst in Berlin and the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Pisa.
The exhibition axis travels through the different historical phases The history of al-Andalus, from the Emirate period and the Caliphate of Córdoba until its disintegration into the well-known Taifa kingdoms and the subsequent invasions. The metal is the absolute protagonist of the rooms detailing the process of the extraction of the material in the mine, its subsequent treatment and its final manufacture.
