The Archaeological Museum of Alicante was the setting this morning for the prize-giving ceremony of the A MARQ of stories' competitionwhich this year were collected by the pupils from the El Somni Special Education School. The competition, now in its eleventh year, aims to stimulate interest in our history and heritageas well as to the world of archaeologyamong students in the province.
The presentation of diplomas to the authors of the winning story, Lupi and Historywas chaired by the managing director of the MARQ Foundation, José Alberto Cortésthe director of El Somni, Emilio José Ruizand the technical director of the archaeological museum, Manuel Olcina. The ceremony was followed by a puppet show starring Lupi, a character from the award-winning story, and the award-winning authors then enjoyed a tour of the museum and its exhibitions.
Through this proposal, the MARQ invites schoolchildren to discover the museum as a place where they can have fun while learning, understand the importance of the extraordinary legacy we treasure as a province, to enhance the teamwork and encouraging reading and creativityamong other things. Schools from all over the province have participated in this year's competition, fulfilling another of the project's objectives, which the museum is present in classrooms throughout the school year.
The participating centres had to present a story set in one of the historical periods present in the MARQ galleries. For its part, the museum provided them with supporting material such as teaching guides, worksheets and information on the different historical periods, as well as a visit to the museum or its archaeological parks.
