More than 1,500 people visit MARQ over the weekend to welcome the exhibition 'Idols'.

The MARQ this weekend welcomed 1,582 visitors on the occasion of the two open days organised to celebrate the opening of the first exhibition of 2020. Idols. Millenarian gazes'. is a rigorous scientific production born out of the collaboration with the Regional Archaeological Museum of the Community of Madrid (MAR) and brings together 226 pieces from twenty museums in Spain and Portugal.

The Vice-President and Member of Parliament for Culture, Julia ParraParra said she was very satisfied with the figures achieved in just two days, "figures that demonstrate the success of this proposal and the good reception it has had among the people of Alicante", said Parra. The bulk of the sample is made up of articles in stone, bone and other materials evoking the human body and faceThese were used and made at their peak between the second half of the 4th and the first half of the 3rd millennium BC, in the southern half of the Iberian Peninsula, in funerary sites and also in sites of everyday activities.

These mysterious objects have been brought together for the first time in Spain in this unique exhibition which can be visited at the MARQ until next 19 April. It is an extraordinary collection of anthropomorphic iconographies characteristics of the Iberian Peninsula between the 3500 and 2500 BC. Images that could symbolise the relationships between members of a clan or even be tools of social manipulation, aimed at maintaining order and the established hierarchy. In any case, all these pieces formed part of a social narrative, with as many similarities and differences between them as there were between the individuals and communities that created them.

On the other hand, this week will see the start of the guided tours to the exhibition. From Tuesday to Friday they will take place at 17:30, on Saturdays there will be two shows, at 12:00 and 18:00, and on Sundays the activity will begin at 12:00. Tickets can be purchased at Instanticket or at the MARQ ticket offices.
