The MARQ and El Campello Town Council sign an agreement to promote the projection of the La Illeta site.

The Archaeological Museum of the County Council of Alicante (MARQ) and the El Campello Town Council signed this morning a collaboration agreement to develop a joint strategy for the preservation, enhancement, dissemination and promotion of the La Illeta del Banyets archaeological site.

The agreement, initialled by the First Vice-President and Member of Parliament for Culture, Julia Parraand the mayor of El Campello, Juan José BerenguerThe programme, which is biennial in nature, renewable for up to four years, will be implemented by through a programme of initiatives aimed at boosting the projection of the site and its activities among tourists and local visitors.

Parra stressed "the importance of collaboration between institutions in order to raise awareness of the the potential of La Illeta as a destination for cultural tourism and also to enhance the value of one of the most important archaeological parks in the Mediterranean.property of the Diputación de Alicante".

The deputy for Culture also announced that the facilities managed by MARQ "will reopen to the public this month with all the necessary measures in place to guarantee the health and safety of visitors and workers".

Berenguer, for his part, stressed that "visiting this site, one of the main tourist attractions of El Campello, offers the chance to learn about the history of the town and the Costa Blanca through guided tours of the area around the Illeta".

By virtue of the signed agreement, the El Campello Tourism Department will maintain the programme of guided and arranged tours for groups of up to 35 people, with tours lasting an estimated 40 minutes in the archaeological park and 20 minutes in the Torre de la Illeta. The shows have been scheduled for one Saturday a month.Visits can be arranged for groups on request. The surroundings of the Illeta, with the site and the tower, constitute the most important historical and heritage resource which the municipality of El Campello has. The agreement clearly shows the willingness of the El Campello Town Council and the Diputación de Alicante, through the CV-MARQ Foundation, to collaborate in order to raise awareness of the site and integrate it into the tourism proposals of the municipality.
