The Vice-President and Member of Parliament for Culture, Julia ParraThis morning, at the Palau de la Generalitat, he received the Valencian Community Tourism Award, awarded to the MARQ in the modality of inclusive tourism for their contribution to the implementation of integration and accessibility.
After the ceremony, Julia Parra pointed out that "this award highlights the effort that has been made so that everyone can enjoy one of the most important archaeological museums in the Valencian Community and in our country, without obstacles or barriers, with a view to generating a first class cultural offer that is as accessible as possible".
These awards, which are presented by the Instituto Valenciano de Tecnologías Turísticas de la Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Institute of Tourism Technologies of the Generalitat Valenciana) (Invat.tur), the aim of which is to recognise people, entities and institutions that have stood out during the year for their work in favour of tourism in the Comunitat. In this edition, the merit has gone to those companies and entities that, through their specialisation in tourism (promotion, promotion of sustainable and inclusive tourism, etc.) have contributed and continue to contribute to the recovery of tourist activity in the Valencian RegionThe EU's role in the COVID-19 crisis.
The Archaeological Museum of Alicante has been working for many years on the development and implementation of different programmes related to the integration of people with disabilities and the removal of physical and mental barriers. Through these proposals, promoted in collaboration with the associations of the province, the MARQ aims to promoting equal opportunities and facilitating access to culture of all members of society.
The centre in Alicante is a pioneer in the organisation of guided and dramatised tours for people with disabilitiesthe reproduction of partsthe development of braille guidesthe development of interpreted lectures in sign language or the performance of workshops for children with special needsamong other initiatives.
At present, MARQ is showing the international exhibition Etruscans. The dawn of Rome'.a selection of previously unpublished pieces that has aroused great interest, with more than 12,000 visits received since it opened on 26 August. The MARQ also houses the temporary collection 'Etruscan footprints in Alicante' and a permanent exhibition that is completed with four archaeological sites and two monuments that can be visited.
