"Gladiators. Heroes of the Coliseum", MARQ's international exhibition for the year 2022

The Archaeological Museum of the Alicante Provincial Council (MARQ) will host from April onwards the international exhibition '.Gladiators. Heroes of the Coliseum'.. This was announced by the first vice-president and deputy for culture, Julia ParraHe expressed his satisfaction at "the start of a new exhibition project in conjunction with the Colosseum of Rome and nine other museums and institutions in Italy".

The Head of Culture stressed that "this is the first international exhibition to be held in collaboration with the Colosseum in Rome, as they know it is a World Heritage Site and one of the seven wonders of the modern world". The monographic proposal will be curated by the doctor Rosella Reaformer director of the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum, and its national presentation will take place next week at the stand of the Costa Blanca Provincial Tourist Board in FITURwhich will be held at the IFEMA exhibition centre in Madrid.

The deputy of Culture has advanced some details about the exhibition, which will remain in Alicante from April to October of the current financial year. It includes a outstanding selection of piecesSome of these works, some of which have never been exhibited outside Italy, will be displayed in the museum's three temporary galleries. The exhibition approach is in line with the innovative line that characterises the MARQ and is committed to interactive actions and audiovisual resources and didactics for younger visitors.

Julia Parra expressed her conviction that "this new temporary exhibition will allow the province of Alicante to continue to occupy a privileged place on the national and international museum scene", in reference to the success achieved by previous projects, such as the '.Etruscans. The dawn of Rome'.which will remain at the museum until 20 March after the exhibition period was extended due to the interest aroused.

With Gladiators, the deputy maintained that "we are bringing back to the archaeological museum an exhibition that is among the best cultural proposals on offer this year, and not only in Spain". The exhibition, of international interest, has visited numerous museums in other countries, including Australia, the USA, Canada, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and France.

With regard to the exhibition 'The Terracotta Warriors of Xi'an'.The vice-president of the Provincial Council confirmed the delay in his arrival for reasons strictly related to the pandemic. She clarified that "our intention is to continue working so that she can finally come to Alicante", a decision that has the unanimous backing of both the Executive Committee and the Museum's Board of Trustees.

Julia Parra stated that contact is being maintained with the museums in Shaanxi and Xi'an and with the Chinese embassies in Madrid and the Spanish embassy in Beijing. "The Chinese government will give us the green light, and that will be when the Chinese authorities consider that the health situation is adequate. She pledged to do "everything in our power" in the hope of restarting the project by the end of the year.
