The Fundación de la Comunitat Valenciana MARQ, develops different programmes related to social responsibility whose objective is to show the museum as a place for meeting, reflection and knowledge. Among all the groups with which it works, one of the most consolidated programmes is MARQ +65 aimed at senior citizens, which is carried out with students of the Association "Aulas de la Tercerea Edad". (ASAUTE)". It consists of training sessions on the content of the museum, the archaeological sites and the temporary exhibitions of the MARQ.
This year has included visits to the temporary exhibitions "The Knight of Ifach", "Etruscans. The dawn of Rome", "Etruscan Traces in Alicante", "Gladiators. Heroes of the Coliseum" and "The Atlantic Warrior". There were also talks on Roman culture, accessibility and social responsibility and, outside the museum, visits to the Lucentum and La Illeta archaeological sites, the Torres de la Huerta and the city of Alicante.
The sessions, taught by members of the Foundation's Didactics Unit, took place between September 2021 and May 2022 and 15 students participated.
The vice-president and deputy for Culture thanked the participants for "their involvement, enormous enthusiasm and desire to learn" and emphasised that the programme of this course "has the following aim The aim is to enhance the experience of the elderly and strengthen their interpersonal relationships and coexistence, making them participants in the cultural life of their city with the MARQ as a close and open space".
