The MARQ celebrates las first scientific conference "Contestania Ibérica Revisitada". which will be the focus of the museum's activity on 25 and 26 October with the participation of 75 experts from universities in Alicante, Almeria, Murcia, Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid and from the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (asCNRS). This cultural initiative will be used to analyse in detail the studies and work carried out that provide new data on the antiquity of the Iberian culture in Alicante with an eye on the archaeologist's work Enrique Llobregat Conesa on its 50th anniversary.
The Vice-President and Member of Parliament for Culture, Julia ParraHe thanked the participation of scholars from universities and centres of reference in Spain and France in this new cultural meeting. "The Archaeological Museum of the Provincial Council of Alicante is once again a place of reference in archaeological research and study at a national and international level thanks to this new forum that brings together in Alicante an outstanding number of scholars of recognised prestige," said the provincial head, who also expressed her hope that, through these conferences, "new advances will be consolidated, easier to achieve through collaboration between institutions and universities".
The programme will include round tables, papers and presentations with a focus on the Iberian Contestania. There will also be a series of papers and communications by young researchers from the universities of Alicante, Murcia and Valencia. One of the objectives of these scientific conferences is to update the fundamental reference work of Enrique Llobregat and to promote research and knowledge of this culture with contributions from excavations carried out over the last five decades.
The publication of reference is the book by Enrique Llobregat Contestania IbéricaThe result of his doctoral thesis, which was a milestone in Spanish archaeological research by interrelating the historical and material data available on a protohistoric people, taking an internal approach to the cultural interpretation of the Contestana region.
This publication provided, 50 years ago, a novel approach that was taken up in other geographical areas, opening up lines of research that are so fruitful that they continue to this day. Under this premise, the University of Alicante and the Alicante Provincial Council, through its Culture Department and MARQThe scientific forum will address the current state of the art in studies on the Iberian world in the territory of ancient Contestania.
