The Warriors of Xi'an' place MARQ and the province of Alicante at the pinnacle of European culture

The MARQ opened its doors this morning to the international exhibition "The Legacy of the Qin and Han Dynasties, China. The Warriors of Xi'an".. The 'Eighth Wonder of the World' is now in Alicante, in a unique exhibition which is the most important cultural project of the year in Spain and which can be visited for the next ten months.    

Amid great expectation, the President of the Diputación de Alicante, Carlos Mazónand the Chinese Minister of Culture and Tourism, Hu HepingThis morning, they inaugurated the proposal centred on one of the most spectacular discoveries in world archaeology: the Terracotta Warriors from the First Emperor of Chinadeclared World Heritage Site since 1987 and Prince of Asturias Award for Science in 2010.among many other distinctions.

Mazón has expressed his "satisfaction" with this exhibition, which is being presented for the first time in the world, with 120 original partsmany of them exhibited for the first time outside ChinaThe group includes nine statues and a horse, making up a group of about ten terracotta figures, which is the maximum that the Chinese government allows to go out to other countries.

Likewise, the provincial official specified that this exhibition proposal "places us in the European cultural epicentre", at the same time as it is "a priceless opportunity to admire the beauty of an archaeological site like few others, in one of the best museums in Europe".

He also thanked the Chinese government for "the memorable alliance that we have established between the two countries and the relevance of this unique cultural landmark that once again projects the image of the Costa Blanca to the world in an exceptional way".

The Deputy for Culture, Juan de Dios NavarroThe official act of presentation of the exhibition was conducted by the President of the Foundation, who also gave the floor to each of the authorities.

During his speech, Minister Hu Heping highlighted the quality of the exhibition and its importance in the framework of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain to "deepen the learning and mutual knowledge of our civilisations".

"Thanks to the objects on display, the public will be able to enjoy the idiosyncrasies of the Qin and Han dynasties and the beauty of our culture, a great step towards deepening the cultural and friendly exchange of our peoples," he added.

The event was also attended by the Councillor for Cultural Heritage Administration of the Shaanxi Provincial Government, Luo Wenlithe mayor of Alicante, Luis BarcalaThe vice-president of the Consell, Aitana MasThe Regional Minister for Innovation, Universities, Science and the Digital Society, Josefina Buenothe sub-delegate of the Government, Araceli PobladorThe vice-president of the Provincial Council, Ana SernaThe curator of the exhibition, Cambridge University Ph. Marcos Martinón-Torresas well as Chinese and Spanish authorities.

This exhibition offers an unprecedented exhibition design with didactic and accessible materials for all audiencesas well as sensory resources that have made it possible to create an immersive environment through the use of different smells:  room 1 smells of cherry and ricethe room 2, a incenseand Room 3, a lotus flower and tea. Likewise, the musical pieces created especially by the composer from Alicante Luis Ivars accompany and envelop the visitor throughout the tour.

Martinón-Torres, an archaeologist and director of a research programme at the Qin Mausoleum in Xi'an, has highlighted the work of more than a hundred technicians and specialists in the field of museography. who have collaborated in the assembly of this proposal in which the following have participated nine Chinese museums.
