Alicante Provincial Council promotes the Vall de la Gallinera Cave Art Interpretation Centre

 

The Vall de la Gallinera Interpretation Centre of Rock Art has begun its work thanks to the support of the Diputación de Alicante, which has subsidised the protection and enhancement of the site, which also includes the rock shelters of Benialí and Benirrama.

         In total, more than 200,000 euros for the accessibility improvements and musealisation of these sites of exceptional historical value, as the deputy for Architecture explained, Carmen Sellés. "The importance of the assets deserved the technical effort and economic investment made by the provincial institution to ensure the best protection and facilitate their visit from the conviction that the promotion of artistic manifestations is the best guarantee for their preservation," said the deputy.

The route that connects the two rock art sites, with a distance of about ten kilometresThe route also combines landscape, environment, history and culture, "an experience that will make visitors aware of the importance of a thousand-year-old legacy linked to the valley's nature", Sellés pointed out. The starting point of the itinerary is the town of Benialí, where the Interpretation Centre is located.

         The inauguration of this Centre coincided with the celebration of the II Jornadas de Arte Rupestre and was attended by the provincial head of Architecture, who was accompanied by the mayor of the town, Ignasi Morathe director of the Architecture Department, Rafa Pèrez, the director of the MUBAG, Jorge Solerand the director of the MARQ Foundation, José Alberto Cortés.
