MARQ wins the DASA Award 2024 presented by the European Academy of Museums

The MARQ wins the DASA Award 2024 which grants the European Academy of Museums. This award, which was presented last night during a ceremony in Cyprus, accredits him as a the best European museum for didactics, education and social responsibility projects.

The managing director of the Fundación CV MARQ, José Alberto Cortéswas in charge of collecting this award for which, in addition to the museum of the Diputación de Alicante, the Leeds Museum of the United Kingdom, the Hugh Lane Museum of Dublin (Ireland), the Futurium in Berlin (Germany), the Aarau City Museum of Switzerland and the Buzau County Museum of Romania. In addition, the MARQ has been the only Spanish museum that has taken part in this competition.

"This award consolidates the international trajectory of the MARQ and recognises the important activity of the museum in the dissemination of history for all audiences, especially for children and the most vulnerable groups, with a high quality programme that includes historical recreations, guides and adapted and dramatised visits, conferences and seminars, among many other activities", emphasised the president of the provincial institution, Toni PérezThe award was presented to the Spanish Government after learning of the prestigious award.

The President also confirmed that Alicante has offered to host the DASA AWARD of the European Academy of Museums in 2026.The next edition will be held in Budapest next year.

These awards highlight the educational programmes of cultural and museum centresThe aim of the project is to promote cultural activities, both for schoolchildren and for vulnerable groups at risk of social exclusion, the disabled, migrants and the elderly, among others, that connect with the communities closest to them, to encourage their active participation directly or in collaboration with associations and public or private entities that stand out for their innovative and daring approach, with the aim of facilitating access to culture for all citizens regardless of their origin, level of studies and abilities.

The EMA, the European Museum Academy, a non-profit foundation based in the Netherlands, was created on the tenth anniversary of the death of the museologist Kenneth Hudson (1916-1999) by a group of European museum and cultural professionals who had participated with Hudson in the creation of the European Museum of the Year Award, under the auspices of the Council of Europe and with the patronage of Queen Fabiola of Belgium. Its aims are to preserve the legacy of Kenneth Hudson and to disseminate the ideas and values of this pioneer of modern museology to new generations of museum and cultural professionals throughout Europe.

Committed to the development of research in the field of innovation, training and the opening up of European cultural centres and museums to the society closest to them, the EMA organises annual Children in Museums Awards for its programming for children up to the age of 14, the DASA awards for didactics, accessibility and social responsibility and the Micheletti awards for innovative museographic discourse and scientific content in European cultural centres and museums. 

The DASA focus on educational programmes, accessibility and social responsibility, valuing on the one hand the programmes themselves, and on the other hand the opportunities for learning, training and connection of European cultural centres and museums with the citizens and the territory in which they are implemented.

The Didactics, accessibility, Club Llumiq and social responsibility unit of the MARQ Foundation.created in 2005, has extensive experience in these fields, which has helped it to win the DASA 2024 award.
