MARQ opens its doors to Alzheimer's patients with the 9th edition of the programme MARQ, museum and memory

 

The MARQ's Prehistory room was the starting point for the 9th edition of the programme. MARQ: Museum and MemoryThe Fundación CV MARQ is developing through its Didactics, Accessibility and Social Responsibility Unit, in collaboration with AFAthe Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's patients Alicante

This proposal is aimed at bringing the contents of the MARQ closer to people with Alzheimer's disease and is an initiative focused on improving the quality of life of those suffering from this disease by stimulating the memory through the use of visiting the museum, taking part in adapted workshops and enjoying new experiences in a different environment.. It is, in short, the visit to both the permanent exhibition and the temporary exhibitions MARQ, as well as the subsequent holding, in the facilities of AFA Alicante, of the specific educational workshops on the theme of the visits to the museum.

In this first session of this new course, the activities have focused on the Prehistory room and are aimed at users of AFA Alicante with a mild-moderate degree of impairment and ages between 60 and 90 years. The programme designed by the teams of the Didactic and Accessibility Unit of the MARQ Foundation and the specialists, neuropsychologist and occupational therapists of AFA Alicante.shall consist of several sessions throughout the yeardivided between guided visits to the MARQ on Mondays and educational workshops at the AFA Alicante centre. 

This project is part of the actions carried out by the Fundación CV MARQ for which it has been awarded the prize DASA 2024 to Didactics, Accessibility and Social ResponsibilityThe award was given on 5 October last at the annual meeting of the EMA, European Museum Academyin Nicosia, Cyprus.
