The Alicante Provincial Council propose that one of the rooms of the Museum of Fine Arts of Alicante bears the name of Miguel Valor. This proposal, which pays tribute to the person who, as deputy for Culture, conceived and promoted the creation of MUBAG in 2001among many other actions of great importance for the province's cultural sphere, will be presented to the plenary session of the provincial institution to be held next Thursday, after having been unanimously approved by all the political groups in the Culture Commission.
As the deputy for Culture explained, Juan de Dios Navarro, "under Valor's political management, museum facilities were built that have made the province of Alicante a benchmark on the national and international scene for the safeguarding and dissemination of historical, artistic and cultural heritage.". Navarro recalled that, among other actions at the head of the Culture Department of the provincial institution, Valor promoted the current headquarters of the MARQ in 2002 and inaugurated the building of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante as Councillor for Culture in 2011.
Now, the institution pays him a well-deserved tribute that will live on in time to leave a record of his work. commitment and close relationship with the MUBAG. Valor threw himself into the project of completing the collection of the Alicante art gallery and fitting out the Gravina Palace to house it. Meanwhile, from 1997 onwards, he began an extensive programme of temporary exhibitions in different locations, even before the museum was completed, to bring the pictorial collections to light.
Among other actions, Miguel Valor anticipated the name Museo de Bellas Artes de Alicante, which years later was recognised by the Generalitat Valenciana, as an institution that grows, projects itself into the future and is heir to a whole previous effort.of which he was the main driving force. After its opening, the MUBAG offered an extensive selection of its collections, launched a powerful calendar of temporary exhibitions, promoting anthological exhibitions of local artists, Valencian art and others of national and international character, which allowed us to see works such as Suite 347 from Picasso or the most significant of Andy Warhol.
"In 2006, Valor had the courage to dismantle the permanent exhibition of the MUBAG to host the exhibition 'The Spanish Portrait in the Prado. From El Greco to Goya', a proposal visited by thousands of people, also anticipating the close relationship of trust and collaboration that the Alicante museum currently maintains with Spain's main art gallery."The deputy pointed out.
