The Archaeological Museum of Alicante, MARQ, participates in the 7th Seminar on Medieval Archaeology, Art and History: The Universe of Things. Material culture in the Middle Ages which will be held on 10 and 11 May at the National Archaeological Museum.
The The aim of this conference is to disseminate among the general public the peculiarities of the material environment that characterised such an evocative period as the Middle Ages. Through the analysis of objects and the texts in which they are mentioned, such as inventories of goods, coins, dowries or sales and purchases, different aspects of this complex "universe of things" that surrounded our ancestors more than five hundred years ago will be unravelled.
The speakers at the conference - among whom are José Luis Menéndez FueyoD., archaeologist and exhibition technician at MARQ and Doctor of History - use proven methods and points of view that seek to understand the objects in the everyday environment in which they were used, valuing the social relevance of their presence in homes. From ceramics to furniture, and including devotional objects, glass, textiles and tableware, they will be the subject of analysis and reflection at a conference that will also highlight the importance of the MAN's medieval collection.
Menéndez Fueyo will take part in the panel on domestic equipment that will analyse the new perspectives of archaeological research into the production of Valencian ceramics from the 14th century.
