The Provincial Council opens a new access path to the Cova de l'Or and will extend the visitable itinerary of the enclave.

The Alicante Provincial Council has opened a new access path to the site of the Cova de L'Or (Cave of L'Or) in Beniarrés and projects the extension of the current visitable route inside the archaeological site, considered one of the most emblematic references of the Neolithic in the Valencian Community.

Accompanied by the local mayor, Francisco SellésThe architecture MEPs, Carmen Sellésand Culture, Juan de Dios NavarroThis morning, they visited the interior of the cave and announced the next action planned for the museumisation of the 'Sala de las Columnas'. In this way, the will extend the visitable itinerary up to 32 metres more. and the public will be offered more informative content. The conference was also attended by the managing director of MARQ, Josep Albert Cortésthe director of the MUBAG, Jorge Solerand the director of the Architecture Department, Rafael Pérez.

Juan de Dios Navarro explained that La Cova is part of the management network of sites and monuments of the CV MARQ Foundation, "which makes the enhancement of our heritage a powerful agent of local development in the fight against depopulation and the generation of new synergies in rural areas".

For his part, Sellés pointed out the importance of the cooperative work of adaptation and research and valued "the involvement of the different entities in carrying out the actions that two years ago allowed the Cova de L'Or to be opened to the public". The visits -managed from the MARQ in collaboration with the Beniarrés Town Council, propose a route of cultural and scenic interest that starts at the Interpretation Centre, located in the town centre of the municipality.

The site is fundamental for understanding the Neolithic period on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula and also for enjoying the environmental and landscape heritage of the surrounding area. of the sierra del Benicadell, has so far received the visit of more than two thousand people. Access to both the Interpretation Centre and the Cova de l'Or is limited to these visits promoted by the C.V. MARQ Foundation with the aim of preserving the value of the historical legacy of the enclave converted into a Site Museum. Free visits are not allowedThe maximum capacity is 15 people per show, without prior arrangement, and the maximum capacity is 15 people per show.

The guided tour begins at the Interpretation Centre with a tour of the museum and the projection of a video to contextualise the space and its surroundings. From there, the itinerary continues in vehicle -included in the service offered-. to the start of the path leading to the site. After a short walk, and following the instructions of the guides, you can enter the cave.
