EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS AT THE MARQ AND THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES

ACTIVITIES 2022-2023

The workshop-visits are structured in two parts: a theoretical part of contact with the archaeological pieces and the museum's resources, and a practical experimentation phase.
We have a programme of visits-workshops for the different educational cycles (Infant Education, Primary Education, Secondary Education and Baccalaureate) of each of the historical stages present in the museum and in the Archaeological Parks. We also have Thematic Workshops.

The workshop visits will be supported by educational material prepared by the MARQ Educational Office. The aim is to provide students with tools to help them understand the visit.

By means of a chronological tour through the material, ethnographic and sumptuary remains of the different cultures that populated the province of Alicante, from Prehistory to the 20th century, distributed in five rooms: PREHISTORY, IBERIAN CULTURE, ROMAN CULTURE, MIDDLE AGES AND MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ROOM, a new vision of archaeology is created. This tour is completed with three thematic rooms through which visitors can learn about the method used in archaeological excavations through reproductions that allow them to travel to a mountain shelter, the cloister of a cathedral or the depths of the sea, illustrating the FIELD ARCHAEOLOGY, URBAN ARCHAEOLOGY and UNDERWATER ARCHAEOLOGY.

IN LUCENTUM

The Tossal de Manises, in the Albufereta area of Alicante, is an archaeological site of the Roman city of Lucentum, which was built on top of an Iberian settlement. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Valencian Community and was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1961. It preserves the entire urban area (30,000 m2) inside the walls. A visit allows us to understand what the Roman city was like 2,200 years ago, with its forum, two thermal baths, the tabernae, the reform of the Eastern Gate and other characteristic constructions of Roman urban planning.

IN THE ILLETA

The occupation of the site is very extensive, but discontinuous. It has been occupied by four different cultures: the Chalcolithic, the Bronze Age, the Iberian and the Roman. Throughout the visit, remains from all of them can be seen, but most of the information and structures correspond to the Iberian settlement from the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. It is an important commercial enclave, a distributor of goods from other parts of the Mediterranean, and a centre for the production of salted fish and wine.
