The Diputació d'Alacant, through the Archaeological Museum (MARQ), has been leading the IFACH Archaeological Project since 2005, in close collaboration with the Calp Town Council and the Conselleria de Medi Ambient, Aigua, Urbanisme i Habitatge de la Generalitat Valenciana.
The project aims to discover the remains of a medieval village, built on the slope of the Penyal at the end of the 13th century, called Ifach, which was occupied for only one century. It was later destroyed and abandoned to form the population centre that we know today as Calp. It is currently the only medieval conquest town in the Valencian Community that is the subject of archaeological research under a scientific project. Moreover, this project is financed by the Provincial Council of Alacant and is part of the Plan of Excavations and Prospections that the MARQ has every year to carry out archaeological research in the territory of the province of Alacant.
