
AS bronze saiti
Bronze ace from the Iberian mint of Saiti (Xàtiva, Valencia). Type Vives 20-2.
Obverse anepigraph with diademed virile head to right with infula. Behind, palm branch.
Reverse with the Iberian inscription SAITI and lancer horseman to the right. Below, on a line, Iberian inscription.
In the 2nd and 1st centuries BC many Iberian and Celtiberian cities issued silver and bronze coins with legends written in Iberian script referring to the name of the issuing city. In Contestania only the mint of Saiti (present-day Xàtiva) minted coins, and it did so at the end of the 3rd century BC, in the middle and second half of the 2nd century and in the middle of the 1st century BC.
