Type Dressel 1, subtype B.
Pottery container with a wide rim, which is thicker on the outside, and a cylindrical neck joined to the body by a marked carination. The body is long and ends in a solid pointed base or spike. It has two vertical strip handles which begin from the upper end of the neck and finish at the shoulder of the amphora. It has been completely restored with the neck and base reproduced.
This type of amphora had a capacity of 26/27 litres and was used for the maritime transport of wine. It was originally produced in the pottery workshops of the Tyrrhenian coast of the Italy, in the regions of Etruria, Lazio and Campania (HESNARD et al, 1989), although, within a few decades it began to be manufactured in the workshops of South Gaul (LAUBENHEIMER, 1989: 116) and the Tarraconense province (RAYNAUD, 1993: 85).
